Web Hosting And Its Types
What is Web Hosting?
Website hosting simply means hosting a website on Internet. Website hosting is a kind of service that allows anyone to post their website on the Internet.
A web host, or web hosting service provider, is a company or any organization that provides the technologies and services needed for the website or webpage to be viewed in the Internet.Websites are stored, accessed and hosted from special type of computers known as servers which are more powerful than normal computers. When someone wants to visit your website they type the website and computer connects to the server through domain. Then the website gets delivered by the server through Internet.
Hosting websites either provide their own domain or helps you may purchase any other domain. When we visit a website we actually go through a bunch of codes which are made visual through hosting it on Internet.
Types of Web Hosting -
- Self Hosting -
As the name suggests, it is a type of web hosting in which all the work is done by yourself that is on your own.We have land aka location, we buy servers, install them and configure the servers and all the applications by our own. After doing this we should make sure that there are sufficient cooling and power in your machine room and double up everything for redundancy. In this hosting we can configure and buy the machines and devices according to our needs as if we need two servers we can buy two servers.
Some of the things in self hosting we should take care about are Over Heating or Heating of Servers, Power with backup of servers and systems, Bandwidth of the network, Server hardware and its configuration, System administrator, Data integrity and backup.
When will Someone use self hosting? When they have high earning, surety of success and when one can own a large space only for servers.
2. Dedicated Hosting -
Dedicated Hosting is a type of web hosting in which server is dedicated on rent to some other person. In a dedicated hosting environment, you are renting one physical server from a hosting company. Dedicated servers naturally cost much more than shared hosting, so it should only be considered if your business has that much earning, success and revenue. Typically, they are used by website owners with high levels of website traffic, and those who are in need of complete control of their servers.
Dedicated servers are priced from $100 and up. In dedicated servers a person owning a server should have a technical knowledge of server as without it, it would be hard to handle, maintain and operate the server.
3. Virtual Private Server (VPS) Hosting -
VPS stands for “virtual private server”. With a virtual private server, your website will still be sharing a single server with other websites. The main server is split into multiple virtual servers. VPS hosting is best for small or medium-sized businesses that can’t afford dedicated servers as it is cheaper than dedicated servers. A virtual private server is when one physical server is shared, but it acts like multiple, separate servers. Each VPS shares hardware and resources. The difference between this is a standard shared hosting setup. Most VPS hosting packages cost between $50 and $200.
4. Shared Hosting -
Shared hosting is perfect for entry-level website hosting. In a shared hosting environment, your and other website owners shared one server. This includes sharing the physical server and the software applications within the server. Shared hosting services are affordable because the cost to operate the server is shared between you and these other owners. Because all resources are shared, the cost of shared hosting plans are relatively low.
Shared hosting plans are ideal for website owners that do not receive a large amount of web traffic. It can cost up to $5 to $20/month. The main benefit of this solution is to share server costs with a large number of people. If the hosting provider can put several hundred or thousands of clients on a single server, then the operating costs can be spread to many parties.
5. Cloud Hosting -
Cloud hosting is a newer type of web hosting. It can best be described as a hybrid version of a VPS, but more cost-effective. There is no physical thing in the cloud that you can indicate and label as the cloud. Just as there is no physical server with cloud hosting, you can tell that it is a cloud host. Cloud hosting plans come with multiple remote servers. Each server has different responsibilities. If one of the servers is compromised or has a problem, the other servers on the network will take over those responsibilities and pick up the responsibility.
Cloud hosting is the best option for medium and large business websites that are growing at a rapid rate. Any website with more than 50,000 monthly page visits could consider a cloud plan.
